Introducing the TOY BOXER:

So many people think there's no cuter puppy than a boxer puppy.
But many of us wish they could stay that small.

Toy Boxers grow up to be the size of a Boxer puppy between 5 and 20 lbs.!

Ideal for the person who loves the AKC Boxer but doesn't have the space or energy to keep up with one. You are going to love the smaller alternative, the Boxiebear.
He fits in! He's smaller, easier to take care of, and has no known health issues. We will tell you why you will want one and where to get it. Every puppy purchased through this website is guaranteed to be in good health.

Puppies may be transported by airline or ground shipping
One year health warranty included in price

Toy Boxers are miniature versions of the AKC Boxers they are named after.  But they look like a puppy as an adult. Boxiebears conform to fit your lifestyle, whether sedentary or active,  giving them one of the most desirable qualities as a family dog: they're content to be with you.

They come in all the traditional colors and coat patterns of the big dogs.  But their small size makes them best suited for city life and traveling.  They are much smaller than a standard Boxer.  They mature between 5 and 20 lbs. They work out as apartment dogs. They are quiet and house train easily.

A Toy Boxer's temperament is sure to please you.  Our breeders raise their puppies are in the house with the family.  They are so good natured with children and other pets. They love to play and often act the clown.  Very  agile they can climb and jump.  But inside the house they soon calm down and are usually well behaved as house pets.  But they keep a spunky attitude and may tell you off in a husky little voice if you aren't giving them the attention they want.  This little dog is never boring!

Every puppy comes with a one year health guarantee.  They have no known health problems. And they are so easy to care for. They seldom need a bath, their short fur stays clean and has very little shedding.  They need little in the way of exercise and generally spend their time following you about the home and cuddling on the sofa when you are there.

Toy Boxer Breed Standard

General Description

The Toy Boxer's body is compact and powerful. The head is in proportion with the body. The muzzle is short and blunt with a distinct stop. The nose is large and black with very open nostrils. The jaw has a perfect sissors bite, but a slight over bite is permitted, it is considered a fault. The ears are set high and kept natural. The ears fall forward, laying close to the head. The neck should be round, strong, and muscular, a without dewlap. The muscular, front legs are straight and parallel when viewed from the front. The back legs are well muscled. The tail was originally docked however following in the worldwide movement away from tail docking, the Toy Boxer tails are now docked only by about 50% of breeders.

The short, smooth, close-fitting coat comes in, fawn, brindle, tan, mahogany, black often with white Irish or piebald  markings. Toy Boxers may also come in white as well as any other typical molosser coloration or pattern.

Temperament
The Boxer is happy, high-spirited, playful, curious and energetic. Highly intelligent, eager and quick to learn.  They want to be with people.  Being a companion breed, temperament of breeding stock has been kept in high priority. Toy Boxers are entertaining, learn tricks easily, and will make you laugh!

Size
Weight: 5-20 pounds with focus on an overall balanced animal rather than height.

Health
The breed development began in 2002 and there have not been genetic health issues.  Early testing was done on breeding stock as initially selected for improvement of the breed.

History

The Toy Boxer was originally started as part of the Pocket Bear breeds developed by the the Queen Elizabeth Pocket Beagle Foundation breeders. Only child safe breeds were used that were stable in temperament and were not snappish. In 2010 it was decided that the dogs of small Boxer type be separated into their own breed, the Toy Boxer. The Get-A-Wag program was founded in 2010. Their team of breeders early recognized the gentle nature of their dogs ideally suited them to be therapy dogs and  put these pups into the homes of special need kids and adults to increase public awareness that these dogs make ideal Emotional Support Animals.

A companion breed of toy grouping

The Toy Boxer will do fine in an apartment. Their small size makes them a great alternative for someone who loves the larger Boxer but cannot have a large breed dog for various reasons.

Toy Boxers are their own breed, not derived from Standard Boxers.

Pictured is our largest type:  Latte' is 20 lbs. as an adult. She is a beautiful brindle color and looks very much like a standard boxer.  Her tail is not cropped.  But most of our Toy Boxer puppies do have docked tails at their breeder's preference.

Pictured is our smallest type:  "Kewpie" five pound adult female.  She has moxy and knows how to charm everyone that meets her!

  • I am curious as to how you came about with a toy boxer. What did you breed to get the size?
There were at least a dozen breeds used to create the Toy Boxer...it was the work of a team of breeders in many states and took more than ten years. We chose child safe breeds originally. But now they are bred Toy Boxer to Toy Boxer for several generations.

  • Why would you make Toy Boxers when there is already a real Boxer?
There wouldn't be boxers if other breeds of dogs had not been crossed to get them. There are maybe 500 new breeds around the world. This is just one of many. There is a need for a smaller dog for people who love the boxer and cannot have one due to apartment laws limiting size or their own health issues limiting handling of a larger vigorous boxer. That doesn't take anything away from the AKC standard Boxer. They have a wonderful following and many breeders. The type of person wanting a Boxer will still want one.

  • Toy Boxers will NEVER be recognized by the AKC--aren't they designer breeds?
The Toy Boxer is not in a hurry to be accepted by AKC...its breeders are concentrating on improvement of the breed at this time. We breed for a gentle, fun-loving temperament, good health and a conformation producing no respiratory problems, joint defects, or any other health problem. Toy Boxers are not designer breeds, By definition, most designer breeds are hybrids created by crossing two breeds together. That is not a Toy Boxer. Many of our lines are into the fifth generation from out-cross. It will be interesting to see how they improve during the next ten years of development.

  • Are Toy Boxers all you breed?
No, if you like Toy Boxers, you will like Toy Rottweilers and Toy Bulldogs. Click on their picture links to the right of this column to jump into their websites to read about them.
Toy Boxers are not just for pet...
They make great therapy dogs

The Get-A-Wag Foundation of toy dog breeds is placing these beautiful temperament dogs with children that might not be able to afford them otherwise.  You can nominate a child to receive a puppy or you may request a discounted puppy if you show special need.  Please see the Get-A-Wag website to apply.

Adult Toy Boxers

Adult Boxerbears can range in size from small at 10 lbs to large at 20 lbs!

This is Cosmos and Maggie demonstrating this 10 lb. size difference.  They are in their indoor/outdoor kennel run.  Maggie's tail is natural but typically our Boxerbears have their tails docked by the vet
