Southern Belle Beagles
Becoming a breeder of Pocket Beagles happened by accident. Not the breeding but becoming one. After being married for 25 yrs. I found myself divorced with nothing to do. No purpose. So while looking at several Beagle websites I found Queen Elizabeth’s Pocket Beagles. That began my life as a Breeder of Pocket Beagles.
Rebecca and I come from the same state of Indiana, so of course we had things in common. We hit it off right away. She has a wonderful husband and family. I have been to her home on several occasions. On one visit she took me sightseeing to the neatest little town. We had a blast!
I have always been involved with Beagles in the past. About 25 yrs. Hunting and Field Trail Beagles mostly. I was an AKC Judge for Beagles. But it taught me about a lot of things. How to breed a dog for the right reasons. How to respect a dog. How to love one also. I learned to expect the unexpected at all times! How to help a mom in distress, calm her, and help a new puppy take its first breath! Amazing!
During the past 6 years of breeding these little guys I have had a few people helping me. My son Stephen, who is turning 23 next month, and Autumn his girlfriend. Autumn has become very involved this past year. Helping with the everyday job of taking care of the kennels. But at the very start there were my Nieces. Elizabeth, Melanie and her 3 yr. old daughter, Evone.
I have met so many different people during the past few years. It has been amazing!
I have always raise my Beagles with lots of love and attention. They are well socialized with children and other animals. It can be very hard to give them up to a new home. I guess that’s why I like to hand deliver them. I enjoy getting to see the faces of the new families. When they hold their new puppy for the first time it makes it all worth it. The one trip I really remember most was to Texas. The family was meeting me at the TX. Line with their children. All the way from Birmingham. I would send them pictures of the puppy at different locations. They had seen us sitting on the grass. They were so happy to see their puppy! Well they all jumped out and ran to us screaming. I have never since had a welcome like that! They had brought gifts to me from their home state of Texas. Cactus, stuffed armadillo toy and of course a cowboy hat.
I hope to be doing this for many years to come. It has given me many hours of pleasure.
We not only have the Beagles but a sweet little Pom, an adorable mixed husky named misty, birds and two cats named Dipstick and Tigger. I had two twin goats once named Tic and Tac. Whenever I went fishing at my pond they would go with me. They liked to sun on the pier. I also had a cow named Bully Bull, and a wild pig we named Spamy.
Two years ago I met a wonderful man named Don. We are now engaged. He also helps me with taking care of the Beagles and the delivery of them to their new homes.
Please browse through my photos and maybe one day we will also meet.
